Meet the IFBLS Board of Directors 2024-2026

Hassan Aziz

President-Elect Hassan Aziz

What attracted you to work within IFBLS?

I was drawn to the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science (IFBLS) because of its commitment to advancing the field of biomedical laboratory science globally. The opportunity to collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to the development of international standards and practices was particularly appealing. Additionally, the chance to be part of an organization that promotes education, research, and professional development in this vital field was a significant motivator.

IFBLS is an association of national societies, what is your national association and what is your role in the association?

My national association is the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), where I served as President in 2022 and 2023. In this capacity, I served as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization. I was fully engaged in identifying and securing the resources necessary for ASCLS to advance its mission. act as chair at all meetings of the Board of Directors and House of Delegates.

Being part of this association allows me to contribute to the growth and recognition of biomedical laboratory science within our country and to represent our national interests on various stages.

In your opinion, why is international work important?

International work is crucial because it fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange across borders, leading to the advancement of science and healthcare globally. By working together, we can address common challenges, share best practices, and innovate more effectively. International cooperation also helps to standardize procedures and improve the quality of medical laboratory services worldwide, ultimately benefiting patient care and public health.

Do you have a favorite travel destination?

I love traveling in general because it expands one's horizons and teaches them a lot of information about the world. It allows you to experience and respect different cultures, which is incredibly enriching. My favorite travel destination is London. I enjoy London for its rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse culinary scene. Whether it's exploring the historic landmarks like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, enjoying a stroll through Hyde Park, or indulging in the city's eclectic food markets, there's always something new and exciting to discover.

Do you have a favorite movie?

As for my favorite movies, I have two: My Cousin Vinny and Forrest Gump. I admire "My Cousin Vinny" for its humor and the resilience of the main character, Vinny Gambini, who, despite being an inexperienced lawyer, uses his wit and determination to win a seemingly impossible case. On the other hand, "Forrest Gump" is a favorite because of Forrest's ingenuity and the way he navigates life's challenges with a unique perspective and unwavering optimism. Both movies offer valuable life lessons and are incredibly entertaining.
